Steps to Apply, Get Approved and Spend ESA Funds

This user-friendly platform is designed to help you navigate the diverse landscape of Education Savings Accounts across different programs. As a parent, this tool will show you a an easy to understand outline on the steps you need to take in order to set up an ESA and how to access the funds.

SOUTH CAROLINA: Education Scholarship Trust Fund

  • APPLICATION AND APPROVAL: APPLICATION AND APPROVAL
  • Application And Approval Steps:
    • Step:

      Create an account on FACTS

    • Step:

      Application process begins on 1/15 and ends 6/15  

      Information needed for application:

      • Proof of guardianship (birth certificate, etc.) 
      • Proof of income (tax return documentation, or the Medicaid card issued by DHHS for each Medicaid-eligible student) 
      • Proof of residency (driver’s license, state issued ID, utility bill, etc.) 

       

    • Step:

      Select the correct term that you are applying for aid for, and complete the applicant information section (SSN of parent/guardian is required) 

    • Step:

      Complete the student information section.  You can add more students’ information if needed after you finish entering the first student's information 

    • Step:

      Complete the student questions section  

    • Step:

      Complete taxable and non-taxable income sections 

    • Step:

      Complete additional questions section by checking each box to acknowledge that you have read and agree to the statements, review all information carefully, and make any changes needed before submitting 

    • Step:

      Application review process lasts up to 14 days, and you will receive an email with the decision

      Once student is approved, ClassWallet will send a welcome email with instructions 

    • Step:

      (a) place orders with vendor in marketplace 

    • Step:

      (b) directly pay vendor registered in ClassWallet 

    • Step:

      (c) Apply for reimbursement, link bank account, receive reimbursement if approved
